Interview: Francisca Duran, experimental filmmaker

Francisca Duran is a Chilean-Canadian experimental media artist who creates films, video installation, and 2D, photo-based, mixed-media works about history, memory and violence. https://www.franciduran.art/

In April 2021, I conducted an interview with Franci about her artistic process and use of archival footage to tell stories, both fiction and real. We discussed experimenting with decaying material and the important and complicated preservation process by institutions, such as the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre and Vtape.

All footage (excerpts and stills) included in this video are works created by Francisca Duran.
