Recent exhibitions

The archival material from the Toronto 1973 Women & Film International Festival has been featured in two public exhibitions, as part of the Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie in New Brunswick and at the TIFF Film Reference Library in Toronto. The exhibits brought together and activated the newly formalized archival collection, shown to the public for the first time. The opening event at TIFF, launching as part of the UNESCO AV Heritage Day featured a sold-out screening of the film Le Bonheur (1965) by Agnès Varda, followed by recently rediscovered footage of Varda at the 1973 festival addressing an audience about her film. The exhibitions provided a glimpse into the collaborative, feminist, and tireless work of those who helped bring the festival to life. It was visited by approximately 500 people, including many of the organizers of the 1973 festival as well as an intergenerational audience of filmmakers, curators, and feminist researchers.
