Thrilled to have been selected as the 2025 Gerald Pratley Award winner for my proposal titled "Tracing Feminist Networks: A Constellation of Film Festivals, Media, and Activism Emerging from the 1973 Women & Film International Festival".
I look forward to presenting this work in May at the 2026 FMSAC Annual Conference at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Thank you to the selection committee for the kind words!
"The selection committee feels this project has the potential to offer a ground-breaking intervention in feminist film and media historiography in Canada via the exploration of a neglected archive of material unearthed by Sallis-Parchet in the context of the 50th anniversary of an important site of feminist film and media networking in the Canadian media landscape, namely the 1973 Women & Film International Festival (WFIF) and its tour of 18 cities. Seeking to address the fragmentation and invisibility of women’s networking practices in the Canadian media landscape, Sallis-Parchet will make an important contribution to the history of feminist media activism in post-1970 Canada thanks to an elaborate interdisciplinary mix of critical and theoretical interventions in feminist archivist practices, feminist historiography and epistemology, and media ecologies and infrastructures studies. As a practicing curator, Sallis-Parchet has already been an active participant in public knowledge mobilization meant to empower a future generation active in the making of novel feminist imaginaries and futurities. The Gerald Pratley Award selection committee was particularly enthusiastic about the potential for historical re-consideration that could follow from such ambitious archivist practices."
